Seeing the issue of corruption as an emphasized problem in Kosovo theFaculty of Law in AAB-Riinvest organized this conference; thereforedifferent opinions were given about fighting this phenomenon.

Expressing his pleasure by being a part of this conference today, thehead of Eulex in Kosovo, Mr. Yves de Kermabon stressed that treating theissue of corruption in this conference is very important: “I will startby emphasizing that the corruption is an evident phenomenon in everysociety, but the difference here is how different societies decide tofight this phenomena”.

In the first session of this conference were given the opinions, theinstitutional and legislative response about fighting corruption. Thepanelists mostly discussed the activities of these institutions andorganization for fighting corruption whether within or outside theinstitution they lead.

“It is not easy to succeed and create a task-force for fighting thisphenomenon, with a small number of prosecutors and judges” emphasizedMr. Besim Kelmendi, Special Prosecutor-D.A.of Kosovo; while elaboratinghis topic “Fighting corruption according to Kosovo’s Penal Code”.

Meanwhile, the Aid Director to Kosovo Police, Pillar of Crime, Mr. KadriArifi said that Kosovo Police has the greatest burden on preventingcorruption; to succeed in fighting corruption an authentic cooperationwith all Kosovo’s institutions is required.

In the second session of the conference the opinions were given by theacademic community and the civil society.

“The corruption is a major threat to the democracy and a serious threatto all political regimes” – stressed Prof. Vesel Latifi PhD.

Alban Zogaj- Riinvest Institute, presented the research report, madelast year on corruption in Kosovo. The citizens have responded that theGovernment must fight the corruption first, and then the Assembly ofKosovo and the Anti-Corruption Agency.

Also other panelists were Nail huruglica-Head of Kosovo Customs,Jetullah Aliu- Anti-Corruption Agency, Prof. Mersim Maksuti PhD(AAB-Riinvest) and Crim.Spec. Fatmir Qollaku (AAB-Riinvest).

At the end of the conference students, professors and representatives ofdifferent institutions made questions and lots of comments.
